While labor is the biggest part of the cost of TV installation, other factors can also add to the total price. These can increase your installation cost by $50 to several hundred dollars.

Mount Type

Most TVs come with a wall mount included in the box. If yours doesn’t, or you need a different mount type, you’ll need to purchase one. The best type of mount for your TV depends on how you plan to use it.

Mount TypeAverage Cost Range
Fixed$75 – $420
Tilting$75 – $500
Swivel$75 – $700
Full-motion$100 – $500

Wall Type

If you mount your TV on drywall, there will not be any additional cost unless additional anchors are used. Special drilling tools and mounting techniques are used for other types of walls. For this, expect to pay $20-$35 more when mounting on wall types other than drywall, including brick, concrete, or stone.

The location of your TV mount can also affect the overall cost. For example, mounting a TV over a fireplace adds extra costs because it requires special brackets and proper planning. Similarly, if your TV needs to be mounted higher on the wall or in a corner, there may be additional charges for extra labor.

Extra Services

The following are optional services that sometimes go along with mounting a new TV on a wall.

Hiding Wires

No matter if your TV is placed on a stand or mounted on the wall, those hanging wires do not give a good look in your room. Hiding wires inside the wall can bring the total mounting cost to $1,000 or more. Even if it is more expensive, the result is worth it. You can still hide wires without investing a penny by hiding wires without cutting the wall.

New Electric Socket Installation

If there isn’t an electrical socket near your TV, you’ll need to hire an electrician to install a new one. The average cost of adding an electrical socket is around $210. Even if you don’t want to install a new socket, you have to buy an extensive cord to bring the TV power wire to the outlet.

Removal of Existing TV and Empty Mount

If your new TV replaces an existing one, you have to remove the old one. If you’re changing the place for the new TV, you’ll have to remove the empty mount, too.

The handyman who comes to your home to install the new TV can remove them by taking an additional fee.

Added Cost: $30 to $50

Professional Installation Cost vs. DIY Cost

Assuming you do not own all the necessary equipment, mounting the TV yourself would cost about $403. We calculated approximate pricing info for each tool based on average prices from Amazon, Lowe’s, and Home Depot.

DIY tools like a pencil, level, and screwdriver are available in almost every home. If you exclude the cost of those items, the total cost will be much lower.

You can save some money if you have most of the tools and an extra pair of hands to help you. More than saving money, you’ll also be investing your time and effort into the project.

Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide whether to hire a pro or do it in a DIY style.
